Audrey Van Voolen, PhD

Founder, Executive Director

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Audrey Van Voolen is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience.  Dr. Van Voolen formed Skaneateles Psychology Associates in 2019, envisioning a local resource offering a range of services and providing high-quality care in a professional and welcoming environment.  Dr. Van Voolen specializes in providing psychotherapy to adults, adolescents and children.  She has expertise in working with individuals who suffer from depression, loss/grief, anxiety disorders, transitions between stages of life, and relational difficulties.

Dr. Van Voolen received a bachelor’s degree with Distinction in all Subjects from Cornell University. She earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from American University. She completed her externship at the Georgetown University counseling center and her internship at the Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Van Voolen conducted her dissertation research on programs for children with chronic medical conditions with Johns Hopkins University Medical Center. Dr. Van Voolen completed her post-doctoral training at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC and at SUNY Upstate’s Department of Child Psychiatry.

Prior to Skaneateles Psychology Associates, Dr. Van Voolen worked as a solo practitioner in private practice. She served from 2011-2016 at the SUNY Upstate Department of Pediatrics Developmental Evaluation Center as the psychologist on an interdisciplinary team conducting diagnostic evaluations of children with developmental disabilities.

Dr. Van Voolen is currently serving a 2-year term as a Board Member for the Central New York Psychological Association

 

Stephanie Rabin Scherr, PhD

Clinical Director

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Stephanie Rabin Scherr is a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience treating adults and children with OCD, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, phobias, generalized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, insomnia, and tic disorders. She also specializes in treating body-focused repetitive behaviors such as trichotillomania (hair pulling), excoriation (skin picking), and nail biting. She utilizes various evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapies (CBTs), including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Therapy (CT), and CBT for Insomnia. In addition, Dr. Scherr offers counseling and consultation for clients struggling with infertility. Dr. Scherr has provided psychological services in a wide variety of settings, including outpatient clinics, hospitals, research clinics, and private practice.

Dr. Scherr earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Drexel University and her Bachelor of Science from Cornell University. Dr. Scherr has been involved in clinical research since 2006 and has presented at national and local conferences. She completed a research fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and has published original research in several peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Scherr is currently serving a 2-year term as a Board Member for the Central New York Psychological Association

 

Aqib Chowdhury, PhD

Post-doctoral Fellow of Clinical Psychology

Dr. Aqib Chowdhury is a Post-Doctoral Fellow of Clinical Psychology with experience in treating adults with anxiety and related disorders including social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Other areas he typically works with include depression, grief, ADHD, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and issues related to both adjustment to college and aging. He utilizes an eclectic range of approaches including Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Exposure and Response Prevention. Dr. Chowdhury is also certified in providing Cognitive Processing Therapy. Dr. Chowdhury has provided individual and group therapy in multiple settings including outpatient clinics, hospitals, and a university counseling center.

Dr. Chowdhury earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Stony Brook University and his PhD in Clinical Science from SUNY Binghamton. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. In graduate school, he spent five years working at the Binghamton Anxiety Clinic, where he provided specialized treatment for anxiety disorders and OCD to individuals in the community. His dissertation investigated treatment components such as homework compliance, and how they impact treatment outcome in CBT for social anxiety. Dr. Chowdhury has served as an instructor of record for four courses, and has been distinguished with a Graduate Excellence Award in Teaching from SUNY Binghamton.

 

Amanda Rose, PsyD

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Amanda Rose is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, young adults, and families. She has experience in helping individuals with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment, and behavioral problems, as well as everyday parenting and co-parenting difficulties. Dr. Rose is trained to provide individual and family therapy and has had additional training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Dr. Rose received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Development from SUNY Geneseo. She earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, with a specialization in children and adolescents, from the University of Hartford. She completed two years of practicum training at the University of Hartford’s college counseling center and her pre-doctoral internship at SUNY Upstate’s Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Rose conducted her dissertation research on parents’ experiences obtaining an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis at the Center for Spectrum Services. Dr. Rose has worked for over ten years for a residential treatment facility with children and adolescents who struggle with significant psychiatric, emotional, and behavioral challenges.

 

Maia Kolchin-Miller, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Maia Kolchin-Miller is a licensed clinical social worker with extensive experience and training in psychodynamic and integrative psychotherapy. She specializes in treating adults suffering from symptoms of anxiety and depression, as well as those struggling with relationship issues, grief and loss, chronic illness and disability, and life transitions. 

Ms. Kolchin-Miller received a bachelor's degree in Peace and Justice Studies from Tufts University and a Master's in Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work. She has worked and trained in a variety of clinical settings in New York City, the Hudson Valley, and Massachusetts. Ms. Kolchin-Miller completed a fellowship in psychodynamic psychotherapy from the American Institute for Psychoanalysis at the Karen Horney Clinic and additional post-graduate training at the Object Relations Institute. She wrote her Master's thesis on the concept of psychoanalytic envy in the work of Melanie Klein and Wilfred Bion. Ms. Kolchin-Miller has also trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and uses an integrative approach that combines contemporary psychodynamic theory with existential therapy and mindfulness. 

 

Louis Scuderi, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Louis Scuderi is a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist with extensive experience treating adults, teenagers, and children. He specializes in long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy for many issues such as depression and anxiety, addiction, relationship problems, family issues, work stress, issues of identity, and life transitions.

Mr. Scuderi earned his MSW from Smith College School for Social Work and his BA from St. Lawrence University. He has worked in a variety of clinical settings in New York City and completed psychodynamic psychotherapy programs at the Karen Horney Clinic and Object Relations Institute. Mr. Scuderi wrote his Master’s thesis on the work of French psychoanalyst André Green and has presented at national conferences on clinical and theoretical psychoanalysis. 

 

Shannon O’Toole, LMHC

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Shannon O’Toole is a licensed mental health counselor. Her primary areas of interest are adolescents and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, panic attacks, relationship challenges, and behavioral challenges in the home and at school.

Ms. O’Toole earned her MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Syracuse University, and her BA in History with a concentration in Adolescent Education at Le Moyne College, studying both early childhood and adolescent development. She completed her clinical internship at the Brownell Center for Behavioral Health (currently Liberty Resources) providing treatment services for children and adolescents.

 

Dana Walters

Practice Administrator

Dana Walters is the practice administrator. She graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Engineering and a minor in Biomedical Engineering in May 2022. She is based in Brooklyn, NY and is pursuing a career in nursing. 


 

Daniel Geda

Web Analyst

Daniel Geda is responsible for the management of the practice website. He graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in May 2022.

He is currently working in Washington, DC at the National Institutes of Health, in the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism branch. He is engaged in research projects related to mental health and substance abuse.
